Seattle students heading back to school while homeless camp remains on site
August 27, 2021
Seattle Public Schools set a goal of clearing a homeless encampment on the campus of Broadview Thomson K-8 by September 1st when students return to classrooms. The district shared with parents this week, however, that while clearing the camp remains a “priority,” it will not be cleared in time to meet that deadline.
According to KOMO News, while some people living outside have been successfully moved off campus into housing, more tents keep cropping up in what parents are calling a revolving door.
Missing this deadline is unacceptable and the city should step in to assist the school district in its efforts to clear the camp immediately before school begins.
