Seattle Can Do Better
May 6, 2021
Homelessness has been a declared emergency in Seattle since 2015.
Almost six years!
Hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent to solve the crisis, but the problem is only getting worse. Almost every day, there is another story about encampments on playgrounds and school property and each story has a similar, disastrous ending.
We joined forces with other grassroots organizations – Speak Out Seattle, Save Seattle Parks, and We Heart Seattle – to launch Seattle Can Do Better, where you can make your voice heard and help solve the crisis.
It is not compassionate to leave our fellow citizens in dangerous, squalid conditions, especially those who need immediate intervention for a mental health crisis or substance abuse problem.
Seattle will spend $167m on homelessness this year, but a plan is about more than just spending additional tax dollars. We are in a state of emergency, our city council should act like it.
